Briefly describe progress in implementing sections of the strategic plan.
Efforts are ongoing to attract new business and industry to Hartselle. Several small retail and restaurant additions were in the planning stages during 2018, as well as several medical buildings (physician, urgent care, physical therapy). All of these are expected to open during 2019.
Lighting and aesthetic improvements are planned for the 328 interchange in 2019. Work to secure ALDOT funding for these lighting upgrades was ongoing through 2018.
Sidewalk and streetscape improvements have been initiated in the Railroad and Hickory Street areas of downtown.

Date of most recent Comprehensive Plan May 22, 2012
Briefly describe Comp Plan projects in progress or completed
The comprehensive plan remains the city council’s guiding document for annexation, zoning, and street connectivity matters, and is the Planning Commission’s guiding document on subdivision and development proposals. Lighting and other improvements are being made at the city’s interstate exits, and continued investment into downtown is taking place. Enhancements to the city’s recreation resources have been made since adoption of the plan, and that investment continues. Sparkman Civic Center was remodeled in 2018, and other improvements to park/rec are planned for 2019.
