Alabama Southern Community College has a beautifully landscaped campus, which greets visitors entering Monroeville from the south on Alabama 21. The college is host to the annual Alabama Writers Symposium, and consequently its well-appointed library houses not only a diverse collection of literature, but also artwork by a group of regional as well as internationally known artists, such as Nall. Adjoining the library, the courtyard is a must – see, with its Alabama Writers Fountain, engraved with names of Monroeville authors such as Lee and Capote, and others. The college is host to the Mobile Symphony Orchestra at its Nettles Auditourim, also hosts the Monroe Youth Ballet and business meetings, such as the Alabama China Symposium. The campus is a favorite place for area residents to enjoy walking and jogging, and there is also a lighted and paved walking trail located behind Nettles Auditorium.
