The Iron Man, affectionately called Rusty by Valley citizens, is a sculpture by local artist Chuck Moore made from parts of railroad cars and equipment once used by the Chattahoochee Valley Railroad (CVRR). His family is made from parts that were once in machines that ran in the local mills. Rusty weighs in at 2,810 pounds and his family (wife, son, and 2 dogs) tops the scale at over 3,400.
For over 10 years, Rusty stood alone, close to US Highway 29 across from the Cotton Duck and in front of Sears Memorial Hall. In 2012, with the help of a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, Rusty and his family were reunited and now stand together in front of the Historic Langdale Mill next to the Rails-To-Trails, a 7.5 mile walking/biking path created from the rail bed of the old CVRR.
