This antebellum Italianate home was built by Edward and Ann Young between 1856 and 1860. It remained in the Young family until it was sold to the state of Alabama in 1973. Today it is operated as a historic house museum by the Alabama Historical Commission. The home is decorated with family and period furnishings. 1880’s murals have been restored to their original elegance in three rooms. Tours are available from the black and white Italian marble tiled entry to the cupola four stories and 76 steps above.
